Episode 14: Anger With David Whyte

SHOW NOTES

How can we benefit from seeing anger in a different light? Robin reflects on an email from a wonderful newsletter called Brain Pickings, created by Maria Popova. One of the highlights that caught Robin’s eye was a quote from David Whyte, who is also one of her favorite poets. David’s understanding of anger as “the deepest form of compassion” opens up a whole world of interpretations and Robin invites us to use it in order to reevaluate our anger. Maybe if we take a closer look, we’ll be able to discover what we really care about.

Episode 09: 7 Types Of Loneliness

SHOW NOTES

Tonight we’re looking into how and why feelings of loneliness come in different shapes and sizes. Robin goes over the 7 types of loneliness that we as people experience and are able to differentiate between. In 2017, Gretchen Rubin wrote an engaging piece about the subject for Psychology Today and it gives us a lot to think about. Dealing with loneliness is very challenging, particularly because it’s such a broad and complex topic. But by learning to differentiate between different types, the task of overcoming it becomes simpler, and a whole lot more manageable!

Episode 08: A Few Quarts Low

SHOW NOTES

Feeling like you’re a few quarts low on love and appreciation? You are not alone. Robin reminisces about two separate moments of wisdom. One comes from a spiritual teacher and the other from a biker dude at a bar (which only shows wisdom can be gained from anyone and found in the most unexpected places). Truth is, We’re all emotionally high-maintenance and we are all in this together.

Can Gratitude Help With Loneliness?

gratitude Dec 20, 2019

Yes! Gratitude does help with loneliness.

How?

It opens the pathway to more and better relationships, enhances physical health, improves empathy, cuts down on aggression, grows healthy self-esteem, and increases mental strength.

Not only that - studies show it can help lift depression, improve your diet, and make you more likely to exercise. Seriously, we can all use that!

Did you know heart patients recover more quickly when they keep a gratitude journal? It's true.

Gratitude also causes people to be more generous and kinder to strangers. It's the single best predictor of well-being and good relationships, beating out twenty-four other impressive traits - even hope, love, and creativity!

Benedictine monk David Steindl-Rast is clear about how gratitude helps: "Happiness does not lead to gratitude. Gratitude leads to happiness.”

Hopefully, you'll hear the gratitude in my voice any time I come on the podcast. After all, I really am glad there is a listener there...
